KANSAS CITY, Mo. _ The next crucial moment in the Juan Gonzalez saga will arrive in three to five weeks, during the second half of October. Sometime in that span, depending on how fast Gonzalez progresses in his rehabilitation work, the Tigers will evaluate how he's healing from the herniated disk in his back.
That evaluation will help answer two questions: Will Gonzalez need surgery? How much will the Tigers offer him in a contract, even as other teams might bid on him when he becomes a free agent in mid-November?
