The Piedmonte wine region of Northern Italy is the second best known appellation next to Tuscany, the home of Chianti located in central Italy. As a non-Italian wine connoisseur, knowledge of these two Italian appellations will undoubtedly make you an instant expert on Italian wines. The reason is that any Italian wines you will likely encounter in a wine shop around the world will have been produced either in Piedmonte or Tuscany.
