Open-End Mutual Funds to Be Introduced as Early as July.

The government is considering advancing the timing for the introduction of open-end mutual funds to as early as July, speeding up the expansion of the stock market and increasing competition.

Sources at the Financial Supervisory Commission said yesterday the FSC is seeking to promote the status of mutual funds as institutional investors to increase demand and further vitalize direct financing by corporations.

The FSC is thus looking into the possibility of allowing the establishment of open-end mutual funds from around July although permits for those specializing in bonds will be put off till next year.
