Marking the 39th Independence Day of Senegal, I wish this message will further improve relationship between our two countries by introducing Senegal, which is not yet familiar to Koreans.
Senegal, located in West Africa, has a population of 8.4 million (1996) and a per capita GNP of $600 (1995). Some 84 percent of the population are Muslims.
Due to a century of colonial ruling by France, its culture is a mixture of local and colonial lifestyles. The country enjoys strong stability with a multi-party democracy, which is one of the most advanced among African countries.
