The nation is seeing a much increased number of bacillary dysentery cases this year, health authorities warned yesterday.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare revealed that a total of 430 persons were infected with bacillary dysentery in the first four months of this year, a 237-percent rise from a year earlier.
The worst-hit region was Kyongsang-namdo with 134 patients, followed by Pusan with 113, Kyonggi-do with 46 and Seoul with 32.
The latest case was reported in Ponghwa, Kyongsang-pukto, where 29 middle and high school students tested positive for bacillary dysentery after they, along with 515 students, ate food provided by their schools on ...
