Korea has decided to take in two to three submarines from Russia in lieu of a portion of $1.7 billion in debts owed by Russia and is willing to provide the former communist country with cash to cover sub-building expenses, a senior government official said yesterday.
In a press meeting yesterday, Minister of Finance and Economy Kang Bong-kyun told reporters, ``The government is against writing off any of the $1.7 billion debt. But it was decided in a meeting of related government officials to bring in Russian subs (in accordance with Russia's request).''
