Finance and Economy Minister Kang Bong-kyun yesterday promised to press the nation's top-five chaebol to continue their restructuring efforts, while also preventing their expansion into new, non-core business sectors.
In a keynote speech at a seminar organized by the Hankook Ilbo, sister paper of The Korea Times, aimed at reviewing the past one and half years since the onset of the economic crisis, Kang said, ``The chaebol restructuring will continue without interruptions. As one way of encouraging chaebol to match their word with actions, the government will ban their expansion into non-core sectors.''
