Defense Minister Cho Seong-tae ordered a thorough probe into allegations that U.S. Forces Korea mobilized South Korean troops to spray toxic defoliants south along the Demilitarized Zone in 1968 and 1969, Defense Ministry officials said yesterday.
``The minister's instruction was handed down during a morning meeting of officials. Our investigation began immediately and the results of the probe will be announced soon,'' a ministry spokesman said, adding that the ministry asked the Combined Forces Command to identify the facts surrounding the allegations.
