As Prime Minister Kim Jong-pil has made it clear that he will quit the No.2 post of the government and return to the party he founded, speculation is rife as to whether Park Tae-joon, president of the minor coalition United Liberal Democrats (ULD), will become his successor.
Technically, it is quite difficult for the founder of the Pohang Iron & Steel Co. (POSCO) to become the next prime minister.
First, he must quit the National Assembly seat before he becomes the next prime minister. Second, he must leave all public posts, the premier's post, ahead of his running for the parliamentary seat in April, if he decides to do do so.
