Few will deny that the Kim Dae-jung government has led the nation in successfully overcoming the unprecedented economic crisis over the past two years.
The nation's economy, which was pushed to the brink of bankruptcy in a currency crisis that erupted in November 1997, is picking up, as almost all economic indicators show.
Yet, to his great misfortune, President Kim's economic achievement has been increasingly offset by failures in other fields, particularly politics and labor.The government is notably losing ``authority'' in the face of the insolent behavior of members of the leading class, who obviously do not understand noblesse oblige.
