Sep. 26--A Lodi winery's lawsuit aimed at cracking the ban on out-of-state vintners selling wine directly to New York state residents cleared a major legal hurdle and is now headed for trial.
Vintners, particularly smaller wineries that have a hard time winning shelf space in stores, hope the federal suit will lead to overturning similar restrictions in 29 other states. It is particularly important since New York is the nation's second-largest wine market, after California.
