Sep. 27--Charlie Butcher wanted to give something back to workers who made his company a success -- and he wanted to do it in a big way.
Last week, Boulder residents Butcher and his wife, Jane, gave their 325 employees $18 million.
The money came from selling their 120-year-old business, The Butcher Company. Charlie Butcher's grandfather started the Marlborough, Mass.-based manufacturer and supplier of sanitary maintenance products in the 1880s.
The Butchers distributed the money on Sept. 19, one day after selling the company for an undisclosed amount to privately-owned Racine, Wis.-based S.C. Johnson Co.
