Sep. 28--The Indianapolis Star on Wednesday named a veteran newsroom executive from New Jersey as its new managing editor.
Calvin Joe Stovall, 47, will start the new job next month, running the day-to-day newsgathering operations at the state's largest newspaper.
"We just simply have to focus on getting good journalism into the paper. I'm just really elated at the opportunity," Stovall told editors and reporters at The Star.
Stovall has been managing editor of the Courier-Post in Cherry Hill, N.J., since December 1997. It was named the most improved newspaper in the 100-newspaper Gannett Co. chain last year.
