Sep. 29--Komatsu is expected to add up to 30 more workers in Chattanooga as it starts production of what the company calls a Lexus-type line of motor grader.
The company's Signal Mountain Road facility is to see up to $3.5 million in new investment as the Japanese heavy equipment maker tools up for making the grader, officials said Thursday.
Komatsu America International Co. spokesman Paul Ong said production of the top-of-the-line equipment is to start around March 2001.
"Plans are to double market share in the product worldwide in five years," said Mr. Ong. The grader line already is in production in Japan.
