The Manaus Free-Trade Area boosted its exports over the last four years. In 1997, the companies operating in the area exported US$193mil or 1,28% of the total turnover. In 2000 first half the external sales reached US$404mil or 7,4% of the total, planning to reach US$800mil by end of the period. According to Suframa (Superintendencia da Zona Franca de Manaus) this figure may reach US$2.2bil in 2002. The exports are being helped by two main factors: new logisticas alternatives, infra-structure and a new incentive plan the Pexpam (Programa Especial de Exportacao da Amazonia Ocidental).
