As Boston gears up for the first presidential debate, AARP today releases new research on the issues most important to midlife and older Massachusetts citizens in Election 2000: Social Security, prescription drugs in Medicare, and health care. The 50-plus population is not only following these issues closely, but they're prepared to cast their votes based on the presidential candidates' positions on Social Security and prescription drugs in Medicare. Ninety-four percent of the survey's Massachusetts respondents are planning to vote in the Presidential election; 81 percent are planning to watch the presidential debates between George W. Bush (R) and Al Gore (D).
