WEST POINT, Pa., Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ --
Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE: MRK) announced today that the Food and Drug Administration has approved Fosamax(R) (alendronate sodium) 10 mg once daily for treatment to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Fosamax is the first medicine to be indicated for men with osteoporosis.
An estimated 2 million American men already have osteoporosis. It is projected that the number of men with osteoporosis will increase approximately 20 percent by the year 2015 due to the aging population.
