US demand for explosives, pyrotechnics, and related assemblies and accessories is forecast to increase 4.5 percent annually to $2.6 billion in 2004, driven primarily by changes in product mix favoring higher-value products. Value gains will be restrained by the continuing popularity of bulk explosives over packaged varieties and the dominance of less expensive Chinese products in the pyrotechnics market. Volume demand will grow 1.3 percent per year to more than 6 billion pounds in the year 2004.
