RICHARD A. MCCORMICK contributed more pages to the journal Theological Studies than any other author. For 20 years from 1965 to 1984 Jesuit Father McCormick wrote "Notes on Moral Theology."(1) But the quality of McCormick's "Notes" was even more remarkable than their quantity. James M. Gustafson, the eminent Protestant ethicist, claimed that in the "Notes" McCormick left us "a model of scholarly comprehensiveness and precision to emulate" to such an extent that McCormick's "identification with `Notes' will remain as long as moral theology in North American is given attention."(2)
