A couple weeks ago, Glendale Heights Village President Ben Fajardo started popping up at the village hall more often, saying it was about time he started getting up to speed on village business after being away for almost a year.

The 53-year-old Fajardo - who is still in rehabilitation from a stroke he suffered in September of 1999 - was glad to be back.

"It's been over a year since I've suffered this stroke, and I'm glad I'm still around," he said. "I'm back now to continue the public service work that was interrupted."
