Cook County Board members Friday questioned a jail policy that allows inmates to have certain prescription medication in bulk - a practice that may have led to one inmate's intentional overdose this week.
"You just don't do that," said Mount Prospect Republican Commissioner Carl Hansen. "There's very little difference in giving a prisoner multiple units of (prescription) drugs and giving him a rope to hang himself."
Commissioner Joseph Mario Moreno, a Chicago Democrat and head of the board's law enforcement committee, agreed. He said the policy, in light of the overdose, concerns him.
