The European Commission and the Federal Trade Commission both cleared The Boeing Co.'s [BA] acquisition of Hughes Space and Communications [GMH] last week after identifying ways to avoid unfairly sharing information between the combined satellite manufacturing and launch operations.
The stiffest resistance to the deal initially emerged from the European Commission, but the organization later dismissed concerns that the planned $3.75 billion purchase of satellite manufacturer Hughes Space would give Boeing an edge in winning launch deals for commercial geostationary (GEO) satellites.
