Oct. 4--World Dairy Expo may be the Mecca of the global dairy industry.
But for area businesses, the five-day event starting here today is also a huge financial shot in the arm.
In fact, the 70,000-plus visitors who will jam the Alliant Center are expected to pump an estimated $9.5 million into the economy, according to Expo marketing manager Marjorie Stieve.
That includes an estimated $7.3 million spent locally for food and lodging, ground transportation, retail sales, sightseeing and gasoline, said Deb Archer, president of the Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Bureau.
