Oct. 4--Three Oakland schools could forfeit the right to thousands of dollars in academic rewards because of possible cheating on the state's high-stakes standardized exam, city schools Superintendent Dennis Chaconas said Tuesday.
If true, the allegations would be among the first blemishes on the state's much-vaunted plan to hold schools accountable for student performance, as measured by the Stanford 9 test.
Chaconas' announcement highlights the pressure some educators feel to improve scores -- and become eligible for millions in incentive money. It also underscores the fact that the state's accountability program relies on schools to police themselves ...
