Oct. 6--It's not just "The Cheese," but specialty cheese that will make the city of Tulare the cheese capital of the world.
For three years, the Greater Tulare Chamber of Commerce has been developing a plan to build an 86,000-square foot building for specialty cheesemakers.
It's a project that makes sense considering that Tulare County already is the No. 1 dairy producing county in the country. But the cheese plant also adds 110 jobs to a county strapped with 15 percent unemployment, second highest of California's 58 counties.
