FRANKFURT CROWD BEMOANS THE GLUT By MELISSA DRIER

FRANKFURT -- Caution was the byword at the 40th Frankfurt International Fur Fair, with retailers, manufacturers and brokers predicting that the 1988 season would get off to a slow start.

Exhibitors at the fair increased to 510 from last year's record of 500. Attendance at the five-day event, which closed her Sunday, was placed at 22,000, about 10 percent lower than last year.

Fur retailers in all the major world markets are sitting on higher than usual inventories, the result of an early and aggressive buying pattern brought on by last years's dramatically increased skin prices. The inventory ...
