The 2001/01 Letter of Amendment, which is the first such amending Budget before LA2001/02 on farm spending (a letter expected to appear in mid-October) banks on creating 400 posts in 2001 and 317 in 2002: that makes 717 appointments in line with the conclusions drawn by the so-called Peer Group in July. The total is nonetheless expected to be only 375, as the early retirement scheme would affect 171 jobs in 2002 and a further 171 in 2003.
