HOOD RIVER, Ore. _ It's harvest time in Hood River, and if the idea of loading the trunk with boxes of apples and pears doesn't tempt you, how about a bottle of cherry port, a jar of huckleberry jam or afresh rainbow trout?
I found all of these on a recent drive around the Hood River County Fruit Loop, a 45-mile meander through the backroads around Mount Hood, just south of the town of Hood River and the Columbia River Gorge.
