In a far east-side neighborhood of Detroit, CVS last month opened a 10,880-square-foot 24-hour store, its 26th within the city. No. 27 follows later this fall.
In Detroit's drugstore wars, CVS and Rite Aid are still the biggest players. But Walgreens, No. 1 in total U.S. sales, is aggressively expanding throughout the region just three years after opening its first store here. Walgreens has more than doubled its market share in the past year.
