Oct. 8--As the bill collector for San Diego County's electricity price shock, San Diego Gas & Electric Co. has caught most of the heat from consumers for this summer's sizzling power prices.
Angry customers have thrown rocks at company trucks, state officials say the utility could have done more to cushion the blow of high costs, and critics say the company didn't do enough for low-income customers.
Others raise dark questions about the profits of unregulated divisions of parent company Sempra Energy, and wonder how well the company's big industrial customers fared during the crisis.
