SEATTLE _ Trapping animals for recreation or commercial sale of their fur would be outlawed in Washington state under a voter initiative that backers say is part of a global effort to ban cruel traps.
If the measure passes in November, leg snares, neck snares, steel-jawed leg-hold traps and other body-gripping devices would be banned when those traps are used for recreational trapping or commercial sale of the pelt.
Trapping would still be allowed _ although restricted _ in some instances, including when animals are damaging property.
A similar initiative is on the ballot in Oregon, and versions of it have passed in Arizona, California, ...
