Researchers at Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals of Cleveland have received a $6.7 million grant from the National Cancer Institute to identify the genes that cause colon cancer to spread.
Using "gene chip" technology developed by EOS Biotechnology Inc., a private firm in San Francisco, researchers will analyze tissue cultures for changes in as many as 40,000 genes. Nathan Berger, dean of CWRU's medical school, said the outcome of the research facilitated by the grant will "really show you the value of being able to employ the latest in cancer technology."
