A COALITION OF generic drug manufacturers, pharmacists and consumer groups is endorsing new legislation that seeks to address the high cost of prescription drugs by providing greater access to cheaper but equivalent versions of those products.
During a Capitol Hill news conference on September 14, Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Senator Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said their proposal is intended to allow generic drug companies to compete more effectively against brand-name manufacturers by removing obstacles that delay the approval of more affordable generic drugs.
