IF DESIGN ATTITUDE and room count determine boutique hotel status, The Marcel is a bona fide member of this burgeoning club. The 96-room hotel, on East 24th Street just three blocks from Gramercy Park in New York, was designed by Goodman Charlton as a strictly custom project. "A boutique hotel," says Jeffrey Goodman, "is about making the space unique, not part of a cookie-cutter chain. It's also about personal service and a sense of intimacy with a homey feeling."
