ITV'S highest-paid actress Sarah Lancashire has fallen in love with BBC boss Peter Salmon - a father-of-three who has now left his family.

The couple have had a lengthy secret affair and are said to be "deeply in love".

Last night news of the romance stunned the TV world, where BBC1 controller Salmon, 44, is known as a devoted family man.

Lancashire - who shot to fame as Coronation Street barmaid Raquel Wolstenhulme and won a National TV Award on Tuesday for ITV's Seeing Red - is a 36-year-old divorcee who lives with her two sons in Cheshire.
