At 10am yesterday I was sitting comfortably at my desk. John Hegley, on the other hand, was crouched behind the coffee bar on the concourse of Victoria Station, trying to shield his mobile phone from the public address system.
It had just advised him not to give money to beggars, provoking the recollection that one of the poems in his new book, DOG, is about getting a beggar to draw a dog.
'I did actually do this,' he said. 'I said to him: 'This drawing is good - you could make money drawing dogs'. But I don't think he drew another one.'
