H.R. 2005, the House bill that would set a federal statute-of-repose for lawsuits involving product liability of production machinery, is sitting in Senator John McCain's Commerce Committee, and the one-time presidential aspirant would like to move it along. Committee chairman McCain has written the Clinton administration, asking why the White House still apparently opposes enactment of the compromise.
If Senate Democrats, spurred by the administration, were to filibuster
against the bill, the measure could wither and go the way of previous
Congressional attempts to reform the melange of laws that set ground rules
