Oct. 15--CUMMINS CEO IS COMMITTED TO TRUCK BUSINESS: Late last week, CEO Tim Solso had to squelch a suggestion that Cummins might next strike production of its trademark heavy-truck diesel engines.

In a teleconference, Solso told analysts to expect a "fundamental restructuring" of the struggling division.

That prompted analyst Gary McManus of J.P. Morgan Securities to challenge:

"You're obviously hinting you're at least considering walking away from the heavy truck business."

Solso countered: "I think you're putting words in my mouth."

He added: "You shouldn't read we have determined one course of action."
