ATLANTA -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is sponsoring educational interventions designed to improve antibiotic prescribing at more than 20 sites around the United States, Dr. Richard E. Besser reported at an international conference on emerging infectious diseases sponsored by the CDC.
The interventions are designed to decrease unnecessary antibiotic use and reduce the spread of antibiotic resistance by educating physicians and patients.
Results are already available from at least three sites, and all three show that educational interventions can cut antibiotic use by 20%-50%, said Dr. Besser, a medical epidemiologist at the CDC's ...
