New York-based Marsh, a risk advisor and insurance broker, has formed a new catastrophe liability insurance facility designed to cover the intellectual property risks of large companies. The facility, IP-CAT, offers companies across a wide array of industries the ability to protect themselves against such liabilities as patent, copyright, and trademark infringement, or misappropriation of trade secrets.
According to Dominic Davison-Jenkins, intellectual property practice leader at Marsh, three phenomenon have led to intellectual property issues becoming a big liability area:
