US officials should restrict the use of acne drug Accutane, according to a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory committee.
Accutane, Roche's number-two selling product, was reviewed by the FDA because of concern over the numbers of pregnant women taking the drug, despite the fact that it can cause serious birth defects (C&I 2000, 593).
Roche urges women to undergo two pregnancy tests before taking Accutane and to use two different forms of birth control. Despite these precautions, 1995 women have become pregnant while taking the drug. Most of ...
