Read enough books and eventually you'll challenge your own beliefs about the world. That's one reason we read: to test our perceptions.
It happened to me recently. I spent a Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium, cheering the Kansas City Chiefs as they played football against the San Diego Chargers. That evening, this Chiefs season ticket holder spent his time reading Carol Spindel's "ancing at Halftime: Sports and the Controversy Over American Indian Mascots."
