In this book the author has collected a series of eleven previously published essays which all in some way focus on groups despised, neglected, or misunderstood in the sixteenth century or in the historiography about it. The volume is of value in two major regards. First, when at their best, Jelsma's investigations of how sixteenth-century believers dealt with the uncertainty and chaos of the Reformation provide important insights into the historical character of European Protestantism.
