The British Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries & Food (MAFF) reported two new outbreaks of classical swine fever (CSF) Sept. 12, as the national society of veterinarians who treat hogs warned Agriculture Minister Nick Brown that government action to contain the disease is as weak as steps taken by authorities to eradicate bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in cattle 15 years ago.
MAFF, in its daily report Sept. 12, said a new outbreak of the highly infectious disease had been found in Norfolk. This brings the number of outbreaks on hog farms to 11 since the disease was first confirmed Aug. 8. The government said the latest outbreak was in an area already ...
