Oct. 19--A controversial $900,000-a-year deal to name Broward County's convention center after The Herald collapsed Wednesday over a proposal to increase ticket prices.

The proposal included a component that would place a $1 refundable surcharge on consumer show tickets, with the revenue -- estimated at about $400,000 a year -- flowing into the newspaper's charity wing.
