FOXBORO, Mass. _ Safety Tebucky Jones of the Patriots knew that tailback Edgerrin James of the Colts was the real deal the first day he saw him.
"That was during my second year at Syracuse," Jones recalled on Thursday. "Miami had come up to play us in the Carrier Dome and we'd opened a big lead at the half before he came off the bench to run for more than 100 yards against our defense."
Although the Orangemen hung on to win, Jones realized he had witnessed a sensational performance by James.
"I wasn't surprised when Indianapolis made him the first pick in the draft ahead of Ricky Williams (the Heisman Trophy winner from Texas)," said Jones. ...
