WASHINGTON _ Any calculation of the costs of implementing the Kyoto accord on climate change should begin by asking how much we _ and our environment _ will pay, over the long run, if we fail to implement it.
Any economic adjustment can be initially disruptive for some sectors, but if done in a smart and sensible manner, a just transition to cleaner fuels is not only possible, but will benefit all.
Sooner or later we will have to make the transition from oil and coal to cleaner burning and renewable fuels. The longer we wait, the more painful and costly that adjustment will be _ costly for ourselves, but even more so for our children, our environment, our ...
