ROCKINGHAM, N.C. _ Jeremy Mayfield is going places next week, but Friday he insisted he's not going anywhere next year.
Mayfield, who'll be traveling to New York next week to attend baseball's World Series, won the pole for Sunday's Pop Secret 400 at North Carolina Speedway. He ran a lap at 157.342 mph in his No..12 Ford, which is carrying a World Series-themed paint job.
After securing his third pole in the past eight races, Mayfield then said he has every intention of remaining driver of that car next season despite rumors - which won't go away - linking him to at least two open Winston Cup rides for 2001.
