ATHENS - Efforts by Greece and Turkey have somewhat attenuated the age-old feud between them, but major obstacles remain without much hope of a breakthrough.
With no solution in sight to the quarrel over the Aegean Sea shelf and the division of Cyprus, the best the Greek government can hope for is a permanent dialogue that might lead to more concrete developments in the future.
Commenting on the lifting of Greek opposition to Turkey's candidacy for membership in the European Union, Foreign Minister George Papandreou said: "Greece has attempted to turn the page. This policy requires openness and determination.
