TOKYO, Oct 23 Asia Pulse - Ito En Ltd. (2593) has contracted with 27 farmers in Australia to grow tea and will invest 100 million yen to build a local processing facility, company sources said. The move makes Ito En the first Japanese beverage producer to grow tea in Australia for commercial purposes.

The plan is designed to ensure a stable supply of leaves for making green tea beverages and reflects expectations of higher prices from domestic growers as production declines amid booming demand.
